It’s always gratifying when people find your website.

It’s even nicer when those people are interested in what you’re selling.

After talking to a possible client last week, he mentioned that he had already spent what he considered to be a good amount on Pay-Per-Click advertising and that he had read about SEO and how it could provide some “free traffic” for him.

I told him that I’ve heard that before.

I also told him that while SEO can definitely help his local business website, there are still costs that can add up - no matter who he chooses to do the SEO for him.

Some of the costs that are often involved with hiring a SEO professional:

  • The actual fee for the SEO work
  • Legal fees to get the contract for the work written
  • Travel expenses for the consultant
  • Your IT staff’s time to consult with the consultant
  • Your IT staff’s time to actually put the consultant’s recommendations into practice
  • License fees for new software if recommended by the consultant
  • Costs for developing content for SEO purposes
  • Costs for developing inbound links

So really, depending on how competitive the market is for your product, the size of your business and how much work is involved in getting you the results you want, you could end up spending a lot of money.

This is why the initial consultation is so important for small businesses who are considering SEO in Omaha. Know the costs going into a project and make your decision knowing that things like content development and link building campaigns are essential add-ons to your Omaha SEO campaign.

Have your SEO consultant lay out all the costs for everything that they might suggest you budget for. Even if you’re in the very early stages of searching for someone to do SEO for your website, good SEO consultants should have some kind of idea of where they’re heading before they actually start out on their journey.

Fortunately for my customers, I don’t have staff to pay. I don’t travel outside of the Omaha/Lincoln area. I don’t have much in the way of overhead. I do SEO for fun, and I do it for the challenge. The fees that I do charge compensate my wife for the time I spend away from her and the kids while I’m down in the basement working. If you need a contract, I’ll get you a contract - but I’d rather do business on a handshake.

Omaha-style.
